We are in the middle of a paradigm shift. For decades, our world followed the rules of what we call the ‘Power Paradigm’. Recent years, however, reflect a growing realization that we can accomplish more together than alone, and that sharing leads to better solutions, better experiences, and ultimately to a better world. This is driving more and more individuals, groups, and organizations to change their ways. The ambition to work towards a better world not only gives rise to criticism of the singular focus on profit growth that characterizes many large corporations, but also to a new paradigm: the ‘co-creation paradigm’, which has harmony, openness, and honesty as its central values.

EQUAL COOPERATION

Organizations operating within the Co-creation Paradigm have expanded their focus beyond profit growth. Aiming to create sustainable value, they seek structural collaboration with other organizations, experts, and end-users. Complete co-creation refers to a consistent, open, and equal collaboration, involving all relevant parties, including end-users, and resulting in the implementation of a valuable solution.

ORGANIZATION PRINCIPLE

As opposed to design thinking, lean, agile, and UX-design, complete co-creation is not a process formula, nor a tool. Rather, it is an organization principle: an organization-wide way of doing and thinking. While the organization decides what takes place when and how, with whom it takes place determines whether it is complete co-creation. Some involved parties will play an important role throughout the co-creation process, others will only add value at crucial moments. End-users have to play a consistent role for a development process to be complete cocreation.
